Folded Fabric Flowers

These flowers are based on the ancient Art of Origami - Japanese paper folding. Inspired by the works of Rebecca Wat and Kumiko Sudo, I have developed an easier, faster technique which results in a softer looking 3-dimensional finished product. This class teaches you how to make 14 different flowers. You can then use the designs in your own creations.

1 Day Class up to 6 hours, 1/2 hour lunch break.

All levels of proficiency.

Gem Stone Quilt

Full size quilt designed to use lively colored fabric representing the rich colors found in rubies, emeralds, sapphires, topaz, etc. You can also use a softer pastel palette or monochromatic hues. Tone on tone fabrics give more depth and luster to the quilt. Make a wall hanging with 1/4 of the quilt or a full size bed quilt framed by diamonds.

2 Day class or 1 Day class + pre-cutting prior to class.

Intermediate level.

Start with a geometric star burst for the central panel, easily made with strip sewing and rotary cutting. Take the colors used in the star burst and use them in the remaining borders.

Add borders of log cabin blocks, a border of appliqué flowers and vines with a stained glass technique, and another border of traditional blocks from a selection of ‘old-fashioned' quilt patterns. Queen size quilt.

Create this 42” x 48” wall hanging of Nova Scotia ’s claim to sailing fame, the Bluenose 11. This elegant schooner design is a great accent piece for any lover of tall ships and for any room with a nautical theme. The design also features Battery Point Lighthouse at the entrance to Lunenburg Harbour , the Ovens in the background, and Folded Fabric Stars in the borders. Woodpile Quilt

Based on the designs by Anita Hallock, and with permission, the Woodpile Quilt Block has the look of a Log Cabin combined with a Rail Fence pattern, thus the woodsy name. Projects come in various sizes and degrees of difficulty. Fast and easy construction method. Fabric Kits can be provided for an extra charge to allow more class time for making the quilt.

Shown at the left is my version of the Glowing Pinwheels, a more challenging block, with reds and blues contrasted by the yellow and light blue pinwheels, with more pinwheels extended to the borders.

Lady Zig Zag

Dig into your scrap bag! This scrappy quilt is made up of two blocks using scraps, a background fabric (which could also be light scraps), and a small nine patch. The blocks are set in a nine-patch grid to allow the color from one block to flow into the next, and no two sets of color/fabrics are the same. Have fun with it and empty out that scrap bag!

Level: B+

Mother's Crosses

A combination of half-square triangles and rectangles make up the two squares which form the basis for this pattern. The quilted wall hanging consists of nine squares plus borders. Jpoin the squares in flowing strips or add sashing between blocks. I'v used primary colors in the sample to highlight the design. You can choose a monochomatic palette for a more subtle design or colors to suit your taste and décor.
