Beginner's Art Quilt - 3-D Poppies
Learn to create an artsy background with multi-layered silks and cotton fabric. My technique
for making 3-dimensional Poppies is easy and can be used to make many other flowers.
Embellishing with beads, fancy threads and stitches will feed your creative urge. We use
hand and machine applique and quilting. |
|
Folded fabric flowers
These flowers are based on the ancient Art of Origami - Japanese paper folding. Inspired by the
works of Rebecca Wat and Kumiko Sudo, I have developed an easier, faster technique which results in
a softer looking 3-dimensional finished product. |
Thanks to Anna for her quilt classes! |
|
Gem stone quilt
Full size quilt designed to use lively colored fabric representing the rich colors found in rubies,
emeralds, sapphires, topaz, etc. You can also use a softer pastel palette or monochromatic hues.
Tone on tone fabrics give more depth and luster to the quilt. Make a wall hanging with 1/4 of the
quilt or a full size bed quilt framed by diamonds. |
|
Use the same design blocks as the original Gemstone Quilt and create another design pattern
- thanks to Anne Morrison from the Croft House Quilt Shop in Winnipeg for the blue layout. The
settings for the triple diamond strips are offset in the top and bottom borders to accent them and
just to be a little different! Queen size or 9 Patch Wall hanging. |

You will learn a number of quilting techniques and patterns, how to work with a variety of block
sizes, and how to make your quilt grow. Informational class for beginners, fun for more experienced.
|
|
Row x row variation
Make it scrappy or use a coordinated palette of fabric colors. All blocks are formed with 2 1/2"
strips cut along the lengthwise grain. Seven different designs are used to make a wall hanging or a
full size quilt - your choice. |
|
Spinning stars mystery quilt
From two different blocks we get patterns within patterns. Stars are formed when the color from one
block extends into the next block. Class can be designed as a mystery quilt for the Intermediate
level, or as a regular class. |
|
Changing stars hugs & kisses quilt
Have fun with primary colors or a more subtle palette when you create this one-block marvel.
The design is created by the way you join the blocks together. With speed sewing, the blocks
grow fast and you can have your top finished in a day. Wall hanging or full size quilt.

This is a fun wall hanging to design! Use a scenic print or bring a number of prints with a
similar theme - i.e. nautical, and create the scene from your window. Easy assembly - no
mitered corners!

Something old something new quilt
Build this colorful Queen Size quilt from the middle out. The math is done for you!
Start with a geometric star burst for the central panel, easily made with strip sewing and
rotary cutting. Take the colors used in the star burst and use them in the remaining borders.
Add borders of log cabin blocks, a border of appliqué flowers and vines with a stained
glass technique, and another border of traditional blocks from a selection of "old-fashioned"
quilt patterns. |
|
Log cabin wreath wall hanging
Large and small log cabin blocks are artfully arranged to create this lovely wreath. Use coordinating fabric
to decorate above a bed or sofa, and make a second wreath using Christmas colors and prints to welcome the
holiday season. |

Lacy lattice quilt
Your Rotary Cutter and Sewing Machine do the work! Triple strips of one lattice color set is interwoven with
a second triple set of lattice colors, accentuated with a contrasting darker color to create the "hole" in
the lattice work. Easy strip piecing method for assembly. |
|
Rounding the Point
Create this 42" x 48" wall hanging of Nova Scotia's claim to sailing fame, Bluenose II.
This elegant schooner design is a great accent piece for any lover of tall ships and for any room with a
nautical theme. The design also features Battery Point Lighthouse at the entrance to Lunenburg Harbour,
the Ovens in the background, and Folded Fabric Stars in the borders.
Quilters will work from a scaled drawing and choose from three methods for making the sails. Hand-and-machine
appliqué, foundation piecing, and fabric folding techniques will be taught. Beginner quilters with sewing
experience and an understanding of basic quilting techniques and terms will enjoy this workshop. |

Woodpile quilt
Based on the designs by Anita Hallock, and with permission, the Woodpile Quilt Block has the look of a Log
Cabin combined with a Rail Fence pattern, thus the woodsy name. Projects come in various sizes and degrees of
difficulty. Fast-and-easy construction method. |
|
Quilter's chatelaine
Display your name, your guild logo, pins and keepsakes from quilting guilds, shows and workshops attended.
You don't even need a purse - a secret pocket will hold your credit card (for that just-gotta-stop-and-shop
moment) and a little cash, with another in front for your thimble and a small scissors. |
|
Lady zig zag quilt
Dig into your scrap bag! This scrappy quilt is made up of two blocks using scraps, a background fabric
(which can also be light scraps), and a small nine patch. The blocks are set in a nine-patch grid to allow
the color from one block to flow into the next, and no two sets of color/fabrics are the same. |
|
Mother's crosses quilt
A combination of half-square triangles and rectangles make up the two squares which form the basis for this
pattern. The quilted wall hanging consists of nine squares plus borders. Join the squares in flowing strips
or add sashing between blocks. I've used primary colors in the sample to highlight the design. You can
choose a monochromatic palette for a more subtle design or colors to suit your taste and decor. |
|
Irish star quilt
This fabulous looking quilt will highlight any wall! Squares and half-triangles use up a variety of yellows
and golds, reds and browns to make a vibrant addition to your room. |
|
Trillium wall hanging
Light pinks and subtle purples were used to highlight the trillium-like design centered on an illusion of
four squares. The design looks like it extends out to the borders. Your choice of fabric colors will make a
unique and appealing creation. |
|
Carpenter's wheel quilt
This lap quilt or wall hanging is made primarily of right square triangle blocks sewn together in rows to
create the centre star, surrounding circle and corner pieces. I choose an autumn theme - The Maple Leaf
Forever - for this sample, but you can make yours to suit your tastes and/or to match any decor.

Quilt as you go!
